Today the seventh edition of Imaginaria film festival kicks off. The prestigious film exhibition devoted to the international independent cinema. This year the event takes place in the venues of Casa delle Arti, up to the 15th November, the new cultural centre of the town of Conversano.

The Festival is sponsored by Apulia Region, Assessorato al Mediterraneo e Attività Culturali, Province of Bari, Municipality of Conversano, Cineteca di Bologna.

Fifty are the works selected for the competition coming from 15 different countries and numerous are also the regional and national premieres. Many of the works chosen have been awarded by renowned film festivals such as Cannes, Toronto, Venice, Clemond Ferrant, Turin Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival.

On the 12 November we highly recommend the screening of Becket, h. 21.00.

A film by Davide Manuli, awarded with Premio della Critica Indipendente of Locarno and sought after the main independent film festivals but rather unknown in Italy. The movie is an original homage to the life and work of the dramatist Samuel Beckett performed by Fabrizio Gifuni, Paolo Rossi and Roberto Freak Antoni that is meeting great difficulty in being scheduled in Italian film theaters.

Don’t miss it: Film director and film maker meet the audience after the show.

Everyday screenings from 18 to 23.30. Ticket for the whole day is 2 Euros.

“Becket originates from the need for freedom of expression, with no rules and no self-censorship. – says the director Davide Manuli – this is the idea giving birth to the joint effort of producers Bruno Tribbioli and Alessandro Bonifazi of BLUE FILM, a retro operation with a flavour of bygone days and yet a far reaching project”.

Synopsis: Freak and Jajà find themselves on a no man’s land, completely out of time. Humankind does not live earth anymore. Every now and then some weird figures turn up.

The two characters meet for the first time at a bus stop in the middle of nowhere. The bus comes but it does not stop. That was the bus heading for Godot, the God appeared behind the mountains and disguised as music sonority. Having missed the bus, Freak and Jajà decided to go looking for him on foot.

They venture into a journey rich in encounters of eccentric characters living this wasteland.

Unfortunately, at the end of their journey, Freak and Jajà will face death before reaching their God.

About Beket:

"...in this movie you find the presence of SAMUEL BECKETT, ABEL FERRARA, LUIS BUNUEL, but above all a creeping disgust for the neighbouring Italian cinema."

Roberto Silvestri - IL MANIFESTO

"...the perfect match with literature 'BEKET', a bright movie by Davide Manuli."

Roberto Nepoti - LA REPUBBLICA

"...the author of the remarkable 'Girotondo, giro attorno al mondo', presents today another little (in terms of budget and making, only 13 days) gem"

Boris Sollazzo - LIBERAZIONE

"...the movie turns into an entertaining journey through the worlds of Cipri&Maresco and Wenders, Straub and Pasolini, western and on the road movies".

Alberto Castellano - IL MATTINO

"...I enjoyed almost every minute of it, absolutely no reference to Cipri&Maresco, it rather recalled Godard."

Peter Del Monte - SMS

"Beautiful"

Steve Della Casa - SMS

"Beket, powerful and well done."
